Doug has worked as the Executive Director of Hop Growers of America and as the Chairman of the Economic Committee of the International Hop Growers Convention. In 2007, he turned to the dark side and became a hop merchant. That lasted until 2019 when he was driven from the industry by a few powerful growers. After being canceled, he pursued his lifelong dream of getting a Ph.D. His doctoral dissertation focused on the effects of proprietary varieties on the U.S. hop market between 2000 and 2020, and he received his Ph.D. in agricultural economics in June 2022.
